Pantone has announced their Colour of the Year for 2022 is ‘Very Peri’ so, inspired by this colour we’ve curated a selection of pieces and suggestions that will inject some of this lively ahead-of-the-trend colour into your home.
According to Pantone, the global colour authority, Very Peri is “a new Pantone colour whose courageous presence encourages personal inventiveness and creativity.”
Peri is short for Periwinkle, a shade of blue, but the injection of violet-red energises the calming blue making it a dynamic and creative colour. During this time of great change, “the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.
The violet undertone is reminiscent of 2018’s Pantone colour of the year, Ultra Violet, which “communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us towards the future”. Pure purple is actually a neutral colour (blue-purple is cool and red-purple is warm) so while purple may be seen as difficult to work with, there are many colours that complement purple whether you want a monochromatic sweep of colour or something more eclectic. Make a Statement
The walls are the foundation of a colour scheme in a room as they often take up most of the space. Make a monochromatic statement to set the scene of a room by painting your walls Very Peri. Broad sweeps of colour on the walls and ceiling can be complemented with coordinating upholstery and statement furniture to up the ‘wow factor’ and tie everything in.
Wallpaper is another great way to make a statement. You can wallpaper the whole room or just a feature wall. Statement ceilings are a trend we’re seeing emerge, using a bright colour on the ceiling like Very Peri will draw the gaze upwards brightening the room and creating vertical height and interest. Small spaces like a bathroom or water closet are a great way to experiment with colour, because they require less investment than a large space, and the smaller scale makes it less likely to feel overpowering if the colour is bright or the design is busy.
An often overlooked opportunity to make a statement is with flooring such as bright or patterned carpet or tiles. Carpet that makes a statement is an emerging trend; we’re seeing a shift away from traditional beige and charcoals to bright or patterned carpets and tiles.

Your sofa is often the largest piece of furniture in the room and is always a carefully considered choice. Make a statement by upholstering it with a nod to Very Peri with a fabric such as Divine range by Camengo or Christian Fischbacher’s Djembe Rhythms collection, below. A softer colour like Furninova’s Evita fabric in Soft Purple is a Very Peri twist on the usual pale grey or beige sofas.

If the traditional look is not what you’re going for, combining different designs from the same collection is an easy way to ensure they’re complementary without being monotonous. Pop of Colour
Maybe not one for the wallflowers, if this colour seems too overwhelming for a monochromatic scheme adding just a pop will provide gorgeous contrast against neutrals.
